Adolph Hitler inspecting his new 'Brown Shirts' in 1930 -(from a press picture of the time). They were also known as Braunhemden, Sturmabteilung, the SA, and Storm Detachment.  Their primary purpose was to  provide protection for Nazi rallies and other assemblies; and to disrupt  the meetings and gatherings of  any  opposing parties.The SA developed pseudo-military titles and ranks  for its members,   that were later adopted by several other Nazi Party groups. Volkssturm was a national militia established by Nazi Germany during last months of World War II. It was set up by the Nazi Party on the orders of Adolf Hitler and its existence was announced on 16 October 1944 It was staffed by conscripted males between 16 and 60 years who were not already serving in other military units.
