WASHINGTON DC — The Apollo 11 command module is displayed in the Destination Moon exhibit at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, with a projection of the famous Earthrise photograph visible above. The command module, officially named Columbia, carried astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins back to Earth after the first lunar landing mission in July 1969. The Earthrise image was captured by Apollo 8 astronaut William Anders in December 1968 during humanity's first crewed mission to orbit the Moon.
