Samuel P. Langley’s 1903 Quarter-scale Aerodrome was an unpiloted experimental aircraft with a tandem-wing configuration and powered by a five-cylinder radial internal combustion gasoline engine. The engine produced approximately 3.2 horsepower and drove two pusher propellers through a geared transmission system. The aircraft had a silk covering with no sealant or paint and successfully flew twice: 46 m (150 ft) and 108 m.
