Lest We Forget The Mission Bronze Pilot Sculpture New Orleans United States NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — The bronze sculpture "Lest We Forget: The Mission" depicts a World War II squadron leader briefing his fighter pilots before a combat flight. Created by sculptor and former P-38 combat pilot Fredric Arnold, the monumental artwork draws directly from his personal experiences flying over North Africa and Italy. The installation incorporates figures representing the spirits of aviators already lost in combat, serving as a solemn tribute to the more than 88,000 U.S. airmen killed during the war.
