28 April 2026, North Rhine-Westphalia, Dortmund: A titanium root is on display in the Rombergpark Botanical Garden. The titanium root (Amorphophallus titanum) is a tropical plant from the Indonesian island of Sumatra and is considered to have the largest flower in the entire plant kingdom. It is known above all for its extreme carrion smell and its rare flowering event, which attracts many onlookers. In the fall of 2025, the bulb known as "David" was stolen from its tub in the botanical garden in Romberg Park. A new specimen is now on display, which has already produced its first leaf. Photo:
