Thomas Jefferson Memorial Neoclassical Heavy Fog Tidal Basin Washington DC United States // WASHINGTON DC, District of Columbia — Heavy fog obscures the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and its reflection across the calm waters of the Tidal Basin. Designed by architect John Russell Pope, the Neoclassical structure was completed in 1943 and heavily inspired by the Roman Pantheon. The monument features a circular marble colonnade situated on the shores of a partially man-made reservoir, originally engineered in the late 19th century to harness tidal power for flushing the adjacent Washington Channel.
