04 May 2026, Saxony, Markkleeberg: The Störmthal Canal between Lake Markkleeberg (above) and Lake Störmthal was secured with concrete blocks, gravel and grit. After landslides in the embankment of the lock, the canal was closed at the beginning of 2021. Since then, the mining rehabilitation company LMBV has been researching the causes and examining possible remediation. A feasibility study is now available, which concludes that the restoration of the canal is feasible and that the net cost would be around 17 million euros.
