ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — The Path of Thorns and Roses sculpture by Mario Chiodo stands as the centerpiece of the Contrabands and Freedmen Cemetery Memorial, featuring six allegorical bronze figures representing Oppression, Struggle, Sacrifice, Loss, Compassion, and Hope.
