A marked queen bee (apis mellifera), looks for empty cells to lay eggs in on a comb in a hive. The exceptionally hot, dry weather has meant bees and other pollinators numbers have increased more than usual as plants have flowered earlier and for longer. Many bee keepers will harvest honey twice year due to the early good weather. It has also mean bees have swarmed more which is their way of setting up a new colony with the old queen setting off with half the hives bees to look for a new home.
