National World War II Museum C 47 Military Aircraft Suspended Exhibit New Orleans United States // NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — A Douglas C-47 military transport aircraft, painted with black-and-white invasion stripes, hangs suspended above visitors inside the exhibition hall of the National World War II Museum. Developed as a stripped-down version of the civilian DC-3 airliner, this rugged aircraft is powered by two 1,200-horsepower engines and features a reinforced floor to accommodate heavy military payloads.
