05 February 2026, Saxony-Anhalt, Magdeburg: A firefighter from the Magdeburg fire department lifts a "Woma python" into a barrel in a room in the elephant house at Magdeburg Zoo. An expert from the zoo had trained the Magdeburg fire department's emergency services in dealing with snakes, spiders and scorpions. The aim of the training was to familiarize the firefighters with the behaviour of exotic animals and also to learn how to correctly assess the risks, as the emergency services could unexpectedly encounter such animals during house fires or other emergency services.
