01 September 2025, Thuringia, Weimar: Bicycles stand in front of the new 'Jenaplanschule Weimar' school building on the day of the inauguration. The new school building for the Weimar community school on the 'Am Hartwege' site is a candidate for the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Thuringia and, as a 'school of the future', serves as a model for comparable types of school in the state. The Free State of Thuringia is funding the project with a total of 11 million euros. Of this, 5 million euros comes from the school investment program and 6 million euros from IBA supplementary funds. Ph-stock-foto

This cartoon shows William Jennings Bryan staring through the White House fence, contemplating a second run for President. On October 20, 1899, Bryan recalled in a speech at the New York Lexington Hotel that during his 1896 campaign he stood for free silver at a ratio of 16-1; he then asserted 'I stand today where I stood then.' This cartoon plays on those words: Bryan, who lost the 1896 election, is standing in the same place--outside the gates of the White House. The cartoon proved prophetic: Bryan lost the Presidential election in 1900-stock-foto
