London, UK, 1 April 2026: Clapham High Street appeared calm this morning after chaotic scenes last night when a flashmob of teenagers rampaged along the road, filming themselves as they barged and intimidated people. This was despite a heavy police presence and a Section 35 Dispersal Order in place. At Trinity Church, where building work is taking place, a hoarding says LET HOPE ARISE. The church was associated with William Wilberforce and the movement to abolish slavery but these words may not seem relevant to today's disenfranchised youth. Anna Watson/Alamy Live News-stock-foto

This was despite a heavy police presence and a Section 35 Dispersal Order in place. A fire was also set at the base of a tree next to Long Road where it crosses the Common. The ashes could be seen this morning but it appears the tree was not badly harmed. Anna Watson/Alamy Live News-stock-foto

This was despite a heavy police presence and a Section 35 Dispersal Order in place. The area has rapidly gentrified in the last few years, with more posh coffee shops and national chains such as M&S Food, Holland and Barrett, two wholefood delicatessens and a Waitrose opening. Some shops such as Oliver Bonas had security staff, which they do not usually. Anna Watson/Alamy Live New-stock-foto
